Aquaponic Training Classes and Calendar

When, Where, and Registration

Most AquaponicAustin classes are held in North Austin in a backyard setting. All systems described are available for viewing and hands-on training. Classes are held at various time throughout the month and last about 2 hours with an unlimited question and answer time afterward. The site address is emailed upon registration.

Registration is $55 per person ($50 ea. for 2 persons) with a maximum number of five participants per session.

NOTE: These are backyard Aquaponic Training classes in a backyard setting. There are many aspects to operating an Aquaponic system in a backyard so be aware that training at "Commercial" Aquaponic facility is not the same and you will lose much information that can be learned from a real-world setting.

What Are AquaponicAustin Training Classes   

AquaponicAustin Training Classes are informal, hands-on, training sessions which teach students many different aspects of personal Aquaponics. The Classes are held in our backyard training facility, and
since it has never been done before, we are also conducting extensive research and development of Aquaponics systems for use specifically in Texas.

What type of Aquaponic Systems are included in the Training?

AquaponicAustin operates many distinct Aquaponic systems designed to instruct students on how to properly build and maintain their Aquaponic system. Systems include:

    • Deep water raft
    • Media based
    • Aquarium based
    • Ebb and flow
    • Constant flow
    • Greenhouse system
    • Half in/Half out of a greenhouse
    • Completely outside system
    • Porch system
    • Garage system
    • Store bought system
    • Half bought/half built system
    • Completely built from scratch system
    • Partially shaded system
    • Completely shaded system
and many other backyard configurations. Everything is designed to help students understand what is available to them, and how they each option may fit into their goals.

Various types of fish are demonstrated throughout the year. Fish types include Channel catfish, Bluegill, Crappie, Large mouth bass, Tilapia, Sunfish, and others.

Seasonal varieties of plants are always available to learn about.


Our classes are very informal and generally never have more than for or five people per session. This ensures every person is taught on a personal level and everyone's personal needs are met.

What will I learn at an AquaponicAustin Training Class


Many topics are taught depending upon the Class. Below is a partial list of information that is covered:

  • The different type of Aquaponic systems available How each of these systems operates The Aquaponic Cycle and Cycling a system
  • What is required to operate each type of Aquaponic System

  • What components make up an Aquaponic System

  • The advantages and disadvantages of each system

  • How an Aquaponic System might fit in your environmental setting

  • The Nitrification Process

  • The options for your system in terms of fish and plants

  • Daily operations, including feeding methods, temperature control , and testing techniques

  • Harvesting times for fish and plants
  •                                                                         


By the end of this informative 2-hour Workshop, you will be able to set up and operate your own Aquaponic system.
